Abstract

Recently development of functional electrical stimulation (FES) has provided restoration of motor function in the paralyzed extremities induced by upper motor neuron diseases or injuries, i.e., spinal cord injuries and cerebrovascular disorders.
And
multiple channel FES system has been developed by the harmonization a orthotics and kinesiology in rehabilitation medicine field and the recent development of personal computer. This article will review the development of FES, its current status
and
prospects.
